The BSS National Squad

The ICFDS National Squad players also enjoyed a very hard week of training covering many of the aspects of our training program.

The players showed a wonderful attitude, worked extremely hard and those that had been completing their training diaries since April had shown real progress in all areas of their games.

All of the players left enthused and motivated to continue training and progressing at home. At Brazilian Soccer Schools we truly believe that we will produce players through our National Squads beyond any player we have seen in this country over the next decade.

Harrogate currently has 4 players in the National Squad and one of our players Mikey has written a piece about his experiences during the week.

The national squad 2009 held at Trinity and All saints was a week long training camp for selected players all over the country from 13 years all the way through to 17. It was a long, hard and motivating week. The course involved a lot of physical assessments as well as technical. The week although very tough and demanding was enjoyable and the players got on really well. We played two matches at the start and end of the week against Sunderland BSS and Bermuda BSS. The week was a great learning experience and I can't wait to go again.
By way of example a typical day consisted of getting up at 6:30 and going for a 2 mile warm up run, breakfast, then physical assessments, these included bleep test, 6 x 800 metres, core strength and upper body strength. Then in the afternoon after lunch there might be lectures or technical assessments or small sided games.

One evening we watched Garforth Town play but usually had a core session in the sports hall. We went to bed about 10:30 or 11 knowing we would be up again at 6:30 the following day.
All in all we lived like professional footballers for a week and it was an inspiring insight. I've come away wanting to improve again on fitness, technical and match play and really look forward to going again.

Ian Harte - Sunday, November 01, 2009

Ian Harte

Before we broke up for the summer we welcomed former Leeds United and Republic of Ireland star Ian Harte to our football academy to see the children and our training methods. Ian was excellent with the children and took time out to answer questions from our players. Interestingly enough Ian joined a professional Academy (Leeds)at the age of 15  the age we recommend.

Middlesbrough Academy Visit - Sunday, November 01, 2009

Middlesbrough Academy

At the end of August we took two teams to play against Middlesbrough FC. Middlesbrough put out 2 strong teams against us. The games were watched by Middlesbrough's Academy Director Dave Parnaby and Head of Recruitment Ron Bone (seen in the photo) Our players impressed the Middlesbrough staff and as a result we have been invited to take some more players  in October.

I have looked at several professional clubs over the last 3 years including Leeds, Bradford, Blackburn and Manchester City. Middlesbrough have impressed me the most with their commitment to our training methods and the fact that they encourage the children to continue their Brazilian training throughout their football development.

This is our first step towards forming our partnership with a professional club and will provide a route into professional football for our elite players.

Please bear in mind just how difficult it is to become a professional footballer. Approximately 1 player in every 100 that makes it into a professional academy goes on to play football at the highest level.
